Thick vines grow around a tree trunk in the Waipio Valley, Hawaii. This is a black and white digital infrared image that I processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 and then polished using Nik Silver Efex Pro.Photography Tip: The human eye is fascinated by geometric patterns. Our eyes are constantly searching for repetitive shapes and designs. Creating compelling images about patterns can be quite difficult when you are working in color. In a color image, the viewer’s eye is always drawn to the richest most saturated regions. Strip color away and suddenly your viewer's eye will automatically gravitated towards lines, curves, and repetition of geometric patterns. In color, my eye was drawn more to the lush green tropical forest in the background. When I saw this tree, and these amazing vines, I knew that without color there is something fascinating for the eye here.
