DMarx-2013-12-04-3869-Edit-Travertine Falls Campfire Tent and Stars.jpg
The stars shine bright above our camp at Travertine Falls in Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Photography Tip: I used a cheap little LED pen light to illuminate the tent in the foreground here. When you are shooting at night, an interesting foreground object is a crucial element in a strong composition. I don't need to use a big flashlight here to make the tent glow because light is cumulative for the camera. Add in some firelight in the background plus a nice bight sky and you have all the right pieces for a great camping photo.
Night photography techniques will be a big part of my next field photography workshop with the River of No Return Camera Club in beautiful Salmon, Idaho. This fun and inexpensive weekend program is open to all October 11-12. More details at http://www.davidmarx.com/workshops/river-of-no-return-camera-club-intermediate-photography-weekend/
